I follow every move they make, and they projected a change in 11.8% of websites -- mine was part of that number )

Basically, the quality of the content on the site will be weighed more than the quantity. People get tired of searching for things and bringing up content that is not substantive or even relevant. Google's changes will hurt these people who purchases crappy content but will help those who thoughtfully invest in their target markets by giving them quality information.

Hope that helps

Google changes the algorithm about 500 times each year, so trying to keep track of it is kind of meaningless - just don't do any shady stuff and organically grow your links/websites and it shouldn't be a problem.

I have not noticed much of a change. I also heard that they were trying to exclude the content farms out there and there are plenty of them.

From the SEO practice point of view the Google algorithm changes should mean that better quality sites rise to the top. Many of the changes are aimed at people trying to game the system - so depending on SEO practices used ... (e.g JC Penny - who were so over the top that they were manually downgraded http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/13/bu.../13search.html

Google often takes away and sometimes give back. For one of my sites the algorithm changes at end of December dropped traffic by about 3 fold. The recent changes concerning quality then increased traffic about 5 fold. My other sites were relatively unaffected - hard to tell changes, if any, from noise.

I have observed many changes in both rankings as well as polices. I am not sure exactly what the policy the Google people are following as the PRs systems are also modified.

I still see many spammy sites at the top of the serps. Maybe the Panda update took care of some of them but in the world of search spam is still rising to the top in many cases. My company has been very successful using only white hat techniques but I see the web having turned into more of a slam haven than a valuable research tool

I agree. There is a lot of trial and error involved. You just gotta keep at it and do the right thing.
