Question Search Words In Domain Name - Is It Essential?

Is it really essential to feature the target keywords in the domain name?

Also, what difference does puttting your or my in front of thew keyword make? As in yourname or myname for the domain?

Just asking cause it seems to matter sometimes and then not at ll.

It's pretty important actually.

And the keyword your use should be your site concept keyword. It also should not be too "broad." Example: Instead of "travel" or "florida," your site concept should be narrow like "florida attractions" or "florida getaways."

This keyword should be researched and not guessed at. It should be chosen based on just the right level of search demand vs. competition. And the entire concept should be researched as to profitability before making your decision.

Also, I personally would not put "my" before the keyword in the title, but I feel comfortable putting words after. Example: instead of "MyFloridaGetaways.com," I'd make it "FloridaGetawaysGuide.com".

Or something like that.

Hope this helps!

It's a lot less important than it used to be, but still important. According to SEOmoz' 2011 Search Engine Ranking Factors, dot-com domain names that match the keyword exactly have a .22 correlation with higher rankings. That's a drop of .16 since last year.

So yes, keyword rich domains are still worth something, but I'd far prefer a memorable, linkbait domain. But that's just me.

I've seen keyword rich domain names that do really well in search results and others that do quite poorly. From my perspective it is just one component of on-page SEO and it won't do you too much good if your filenames, title, description, H1's and alt tags are not optimised.
