Question My Business Ideas?

Hello Everyone!

I have several Ideas for businesses. But my problem is I am not sure which one to go with. The business ideas I have are varied and cover different areas.

Well first I will give you some information about me so you can help me decide or come up with some other ideas that might be more suited for me.

I have not worked for the last 6 1/2 years. I have a few medical conditions that hurt my chances of obtaining a job. They are: Obesity, Depresion, a form of Epilepsy, a back condition called Spondylolisthesis (slipage of the spine) and Sciatica. I also have had past injuries that are possibly starting to become arthritic; Knees, elbows, shoulders, and neck. No one is going to give me a job with all of those conditions! Add to that my only job experience has been as a dishwasher and my last job was as a forklift operator.

My hobbies and things I like to do: Hunting, Listening to all kinds of music, Playing my guitars and bass guitar, playing video games, Gardening, cooking, surfing the internet/anything computer related, and reading.

My business ideas are:
I have several restaurant ideas and they are:
1) a take out shop- hotdogs,hamburgers,steaksandwhiches, etc..
2) a Restaurant and Banquet hall, where the main ballroom would host dinner and dancing every weekend.
3) a family restaurant.
4) homestyle baked goods and soups.

My other business ideas are:
1) machine shop and wood/metal art
2) Farm and ranch
3) Car repair/restoration shop
4) fruit and vegetable farm/stand.
5) music studio

I also have a few GRAND Ideas. These are very large and would require a significant investment. I will tell you them anyway. There are 3 main ones that I have.
1) a Health Care/Rehab/Medical complex. Combine a hospital, outpatient/inpatient rehab/medical facility, Healthy living center, and doctors offices.
2) a sports and entertainment complex. Golf course, hotel/casino, baseball stadium, football stadium, tennis courts, indoor arena(hockey, basketball), amusement park, a roadcourse for auto-racing, hiking, biking, and walking trails.
3) a one-stop engineering and design firm.

These are the ideas and grand ideas I have as of right now and that I could recall. I could go into more detail, but there is not enough time or room for it all.

I hope you can help me decide or come up with something else for me to look at.

My main concern with your restaurant/food service ideas is that running a successful business of that type takes long hours and requires a high level of energy -- would you be able to stay on your feet for many hours every day? Unless you've got significant funding to hire and pay employees from the get-go (and enough energy and experience in the business to effectively manage them), you're going to have to do a lot of the work yourself initially.

Doing something as a hobby is very different from running a business. When it's a hobby, you can stop and take a rest whenever you feel tired... not so when it's a business and you've got customers (and, possibly, employees) depending on you.

Realistically, IMHO, something less physically demanding, like the music studio or the fruit/veggie stand, might be your best best.

Hello torka!

That was and is one of my main concerns also. With all of my ideas, as of right now I do not have much, if any money to get started. I also realized I may have thought of my business ideas a little too late to be able to do anything about them. Maybe if I had thought of them about 20-25 years ago when I was in High school and Junior high school maybe I would have had a chance.

A couple of the business ideas I could get started if I had about $100,000. Of course that is using the property that I have now which is my parents. Then building a small pole type or barn like building and then purchasing the needed equipment to get started. But If I would have to go out and purchase property and then build a small building to house the business and then purchase the equipment and supplies, I would probably need close to $500,000 to $1,000,000 or more depending on the price and the amount of the land and the location of the property.

My other problem that I have is: no experience in the areas that I want to have a business in. Also I do not have any business education. But I know how I want to operate/run my businesses. If that makes any sense.

As I have once heard someone say: "I am idea rich and cash poor." And that is a bad situation to be in when wanting to own a business.
