I've been doing this for a lot of years. And one thing I (and many other copywriters I know) still have to look out for is "falling in love with our own words."
What I mean is... Sometimes I'll write an ad that I think is great. It has a bunch of powerful words, and the structure of the piece looks like a winner. I may even give myself a "pat on the back" because of how brilliant I am.
But when I go back a couple days later, and re-read it, I realize it's crap and it wouldn't convince me to buy anything!
So, I've learned to always put my copy down for a couple days, and then re-read it with fresh eyes, before submitting it to a client.
In conclusion; the main piece of advice I'd offer any entrepreneur is... You're writing copy to sell something to OTHER people. Bad copy makes you look smart - Good copy makes your customer feel smart.
So unless you plan on buying 100% of your own product... don't fall in love with your own words.
