Cool A Trick To Increase Click-through Ratio

Just read a funny trick. One software catalog put different banners something like ‘Name of Software’ only $1. Look for the special promotion page’. The trick was

1. Those, who where interesting in the software surely clicked the banner.
2. Then the catalog used two scenarios

1. they didn’t have that ‘promotion page’ at all and visitors walk through all the pages of the catalog, before they left
2. they really had that promotion and successful visitors came back many times

pretty funny, however, software related to computer is number 1 on the internet in sales

so they should develop a good following, but that doesn't mean they will make a lot of money

unless they advertise in the first place -- a lot!

Its funny to some extent but it comes to my mind as cheating. Couldn't people use allowed sources for earning.

I also don't think this is a nice idea for building a landing page.

It's a good trick if you want to guarantee that visitors never click on that banner again. Most web browers allow know that if a banner offers something that is to good to be true to watch out.

Default Not worth it

Might seem clever but it isn't worth it. For one thing if you use Google they will not allow your ad in the first place. I would guess others would be wise to this one by now too.

Also you will improve your click through rate but not your conversions. I know I will usually back out of a site after 2 clicks if I don't find what I am looking for. People use the back button very easily.

If you want to make sales and get customers who will shop with you again and again, have a great product, a great price, and great customer service. Some things never change and word of mouth will always be the best advertising you can have.

It feels sometimes like you are behind if you don't have a ton of traffic to your site but what you really want is sales, and happy returning customers. A few quality clicks are way better than a lot of people just browsing through or worse yet angry with you for not having what they want.

Happy Day
