Thanks for the list of directories. I was looking for some new ones to submit to.

I think directories give you good backlinks to your site, but I have forum posting to have the most immediate affect on getting traffic to my site. If you find relevant forums to join then you get the double benefit of people on the forum visiting your site as well as search engines, thus increasing your page rank.

I agree with the previous poster that directories in and of themself won't open floodgates of traffic to your site. However, using the "you never know where your next customer comes from" theory, it's a good move to include your site in directories and forums like this. Make sure you're not enrolling in a "link farm" that could create ranking issue for you. Also, review the directory before registering. Does it fit your business? Any competitors in there? Do they appear prominent in SERPs (search engine results pages)?

Directories are very helpful for a website especially if links are followed. Thanks for sharing the list.

I did a lot of advertising on directories and in the end.. It was a waste of money. Paying $50 a month for a link is insane, I wanted the traffic which was nonexistent.

I personally do not get traffic directly from Web Directory but since they are indexed on Google, your listing appear on search results, so you get the traffic from SERP's through the listing on the directory.

Also, ranking on SERP's is more about linking than anything else so creating the link in the directory with the appropriated link will help on search engine rankings.

Regards,

Jose
