Default Website Hits & Compensation

Hello fellow community members...just joined the forum & first time participating in a forum. My friend and I are putting a business plan together and trying to figure out the numbers...what our revenue streams will be as a publishing company & are trying to wrap our arms around how to make money on the internet. We understand that traffic is power but don't know anything more specific than that. Can anyone help us out with the metrics?
What are the methods of compensation, range of converstion ratios...poor to good?

Indeed, for a online business, traffic is the power. Besides, you have to have good contents on your website, or perfect goods or services. You should focus on your target market segments. Althoght traffic is power, non targeted traffic will only waste your time and money on marketing, and it costs bandwidth:>

Here's an interesting article on how 'the Digg effect' can negatively effect your ad revenue. Food for thought.
