Personally, I have never been affected by Google updates, neither my own sites nor client sites so most of the time I do not pay much attention to these type of updates. I have heard regarding the latest that it may have something to do with reciprocal linking. Therefore if you have all of a sudden dropped out of sight from the Google SERPs, you may want to examine your link building practices and take a hard look at who you are linking to.

Yup who you link to is a major factor... pick and choose those outgoing links carefully.

This latest Google update was extremely good to me... I moved from #7 to #1 for the major keyword (186,000,000 results) I target.

Johnny Lew Sports get you to about #12.
But there are several occurances of your activity with larger sites. perhaps events.

Johnny Lew's Sports you are not on the first page.

Try adding your site name in your key words. And add a google XML sitemap.
When you submit the sitemap you should be back near the top for your domain.

I was hurt pretty badly from it. My linking practices have been pretty solid. One deviation might be that I purchased some links several months ago - and the pages are not related. Another reason might be that I haven't been actively seeking new links...

Lesson learned: diversify.

It's keeping me busy.

jm, I would say you went wrong when you purchased links from unrelated websites. This is like yelling in Google's ear "IM MANIPULATING PAGERANK!"

It's easy to see a website selling links by where the links are located in the code and how topically related they are. If there is even one link featured that is unrelated, it raises at least a yellow flag as to why this website is linking to an topically unrelated website.

There is nothing wrong with purchasing links... I've done it myself... however make sure they are related, after all, you are targeting a certain group of PEOPLE with that link... correct? If not then I believe you are open for a reduction in rank.

Here is an article about Google Sitemaps that's worth reading:

On some Google datacentres you are number one on a search for Johhny Lew Sports. I would be inclined to wait a week until Google's 'Jagger' update is over before you do anything drastic.
