Point worth noting -- while posts to your personal FB Profile or business Page are only shown to a very low percentage of your Friends and followers, posts and comments to groups are show to 100% of the members of that group (so I am told.)

That news may not be worth much, though, as most groups (at least, all the groups of which I am a member) frown on self-promoting posts and comments. Some to the point of booting you out of the group if you misbehave!

Talking FB Groups are a potential goldmine

Yep — FB Groups are a whole other ball game if they're handled right.

There's no guarantee that 100% of group members will actually see your posts. A lot of members turn off notifications. But at least you get feedback on how many group members read your post.

And while most groups frown on self-promotion, they're happy for you to upload documents, images and videos that can help group members who download them from the FILES tab.

There's the opportunity: the quid pro quo that, in forums, says you can list a forum signature with promotional copy and links. You can promote yourself, provided you do it intelligently, with discretion.

I've had unexpectedly good responses to PDF docs, videos and Questionnaires, etc, that I've posted to FB Groups in my target audience. But it's only intelligent to spend a little time building awareness and credibility for yourself first, by answering questions, offering advice, tips, etc to Group members before uploading.

Apart from the courtesy angle, credibility has to be built and earned, which takes time and effort.

I agree with you, John - especially about building awareness and building credibility.

The person who joins the group and immediately starts giving advice and trying to lecture or coach the group before they even know who is in the group, always amazes me.

They invariably get ignored!

Arrow Blessed are they who have nothing to say…

Too darned right!

I always love the newcomer who launches an introduction with how they want to help people with their businesses, and how experienced they are.

The interesting commonality they also seem to share is two-fold:
  • They all assume that the forum membership consists of incompetent ignoramuses.
  • They all tend to vanish very quickly and very quietly.
Funny thing, that.

Using Facebook and Twitter together is a great idea.
It can be good for getting more traffic to your website. All you have to do is to promote your page and get more likes and twits.
