Default Blogging To Earn Money

I currently do some writing. I have traveled to 40 countries. How difficult do you think it would be to start a blog and earn money? I am not talking about getting rich. I would be happy to make $1,000 a month.

It's not impossible, but it isn't incredibly easy either, otherwise everyone would be doing it. I would check out smartpassiveincome.com for some awesome articles on how to build a niche site and make money online. Best of luck!!!

Thanks for the advice Eric. I just thought that it might be worthwhile to start a blog about a country that I visit on a regular basis.

As long as you have a continuous source of content ideas, which in this case is the traveling that you are doing, you will not face a tough time coming up with quality content for your blog.

Having a consistent publishing schedule of quality content is often the hardest part of blogging.

However that doesn't mean that you will make money.

Correct. You have to consider how people are going to find the blog. If by search engines, then it is something that they have to be looking for plus it is easier if there are relatively few providing the same. You need to do keyword research. Take your country, and look at the keywords that people search for using google's keyword tool. Can you provide content on those topics? Then consider how many others are providing the same content. You can do that by taking the keyword and putting it within "quotes". You should focus on those keywords that have the least number of results. You should also look at what the average pay per click rate is for that keyword, to find out how valuable those visitors are to advertisers.

Where can I find out how valuable the average pay per click rate is? Is there a site that gives you this information?

I typically will run an adwords campaign for a short period of time to evaluate cost per click. You can use the google keyword research tool also. There you will find they provide the number of global and local searches (how frequently a keyword is searched) along with competition. In this case competition refers to the competitiveness of bidding for the keyword. They rank by saying high, medium or low. Also when you set up a campaign they will provide you with cost per click estimates.

I find it best, if I have twenty keywords that I have researched as being potential targets, to go ahead and run an adwords campaign first to evaluate this prior to creating content and optimizing specifically for that keyword. So, say I have a site about "futons", I would run adwords pointing to that site for black futons, metal futons, etc.

Logan,

Thanks for the advice. Basically, I would like to develop a website on Thailand and live there. I can teaching English to pay the bills until I start to earn enough from the website.
