YES. Exactly. By doing this you are creating credibility for google's algorithm. Developing different content types all within the same niche topic - articles, blogs, social media, etc and then pointing them to a landing page on that topic or homepage.

I would say - pay attention to social media. See what is trending, how your competitors are making a move etc.
Also, look to develop a personal relationship with your clients / customers so that leaving you becomes difficult for them and they understand that you value them a lot.

YES, become an expert in your clients field plus the SEO/SEM etc. This makes you highly unique and something that is very difficult for them to replace.

Default social media tips for small businesses

I do digital PR and marketing for a living, but still love learning new tips - thanks all for sharing!

The biggest tip I can share for 2014 is social listening. Your customers/future customers are talking on social media. If you aren't listening, your competitors are. By monitoring hashtags for conversations...checking out competitor's pages...and engaging with customers online and having real conversations, you 1) build trust with customers, 2) can leverage these free tools to insert yourself in conversations, offer advice or assistance, or talk up your product.

Default Neurs.com

There's a new social media website that is specifically designed for aspiring entrepreneurs to network with current business owners/providers. It's supposed to be the next LinkedIn or CareerBuilder type website. You guys should check it out: Neurs.com

You have to be invited to the site as of now. I can send you an invite if you're interested, just shoot me over your email address.

If you haven't joined Pinterest & Instagram yet, now is the right time! Today, many businesses are already into Pinterest & Instagram in sharing some cool photos and other relevant stuffs for their website. You can now add your URL to a Pinterest photo and you can even add your location using their mapping feature. The Pinterest mapping feature is very effective as it could help you boost your search ranking when certain individuals search for local businesses & locations.

Pointing them to a landing page also helps you measure how engaging your social media posts are. You can't do without social media in today's time.

Hootsuite is definitely a great tool to manage your social media efforts.

I believe in 2014, its gonna be Twitter and to some degree G+. I have started using both of these. As a BD cum Social Media professional, my target is to generate leads for my company and Twitter is a platform where lead generation is not much of a headache. You need to follow people in your industry and keep track of their requirements.

If anyone has some other suggestion then, please advice.

All the mentions of Pinterest are spot-on.

ESPECIALLY if you happen to be selling something online.

While it's not a matter as simple as putting up a bunch of boards with your inventory, Pinterest is a huge revenue-driver, and should really be used by everyone and anyone trying to sell online.

The key, though, is remember that Pinterest is about LIFESTYLE CURATION, and not only about brand showcasing.

Worth noting, though, is the fact that Adobe's research expects Pinterest to surpass Facebook this year, when it comes to the revenue per visit.
