Directories are important for a site's presence online. This is not only from an SEO perspective. Just think of directories as commercials or public announcements on TV. Then imagine how people react to them.

Default Still Directory submission is Useful

Yeah, Directory submissions are still useful. If you make links from quality directory sites, it will help your Search Engine Rankings.

Useful for the high PR & higher authority, such as dmoz, yahoo, etc. But usually most of them are paid as one. Dmoz is also difficult to get approved. For me, I prefer to have a backlink from sidebar link in the same niche or guess blogging with high PR.

As people have been saying, directory submissions are still worth while if you restrict your self to quality directories, and where possible, niche relevant business directories or directories dealing with your local area.

Spamming loads of directories, whatever their quality just to get backlinks is a waste of time and in some cases is harmful SEO.

I have a large spreadsheet list of UK based business directories, along with their Domain Authority and the nature of submission entry. If any small business owners out there would like me to send them this xls, just send me an email via my website in the link below.

What do you think, instead, of the blog used to BL?

I refer to post targeted to insert links with anchor.
