I agree. But some form of gratitude on the part of the employer would help. A box of chocolates with a Thank You note is better than nothing at all. At least the employee knows that you took notice.

The payment doesn't have to be huge. Even a token of appreciation along with modest money can do wonders in terms of employee motivation and can help improve margins. Another option is to tie their bonus to profit and margin improvement and create win-win situation for yourself as well as employees.

If an employee is struggling to pay his or her bills, it is all about the money.

I am not clear on where this aspect comes to picture. Weren't we talking about things we could do to appreciate employee effort?
