Doing that is not going to do much for your site, plus it just looks crappy. I agree with Nick, it is much more about the anchor text that is linking back to you. Keep your site clean and worry more about the links than the footer at the bottom. The only links I would put there are the internal links to my site.

google: carpet cleaning newport beach. This guy who ranks #1 on the local listing (Eco Green Carpet Cleaning) has cities, zips, and all kinds of keyword stuffing and his ranking is great. And is also on the front page for multiple cities and keywords and all of his websites are all fill in the blank Tags.

I haven't seen that technique be implemented on websites today. I personally don't think it doesn't have anymore effect onto you and I's website.

Right now it's all about the content of your website and the links back that have content to your website.

When we're talking about locally being the top dog in Google Search; I find it just locally being searched for example Google Japan. In Google Japan, the top website would be the top one that gets searched through Google Japan Search Engine regardless of the Zip Code and City.

If your area, zip code, etc is clear on your website, all search engines worth their salt will recognise this.

Regarding on page optimization, the title and permalink seem to still carry weight, so I agree with the other commenter above... one page per keyword. so "90210 plumber reveals how to stop a leak with your thumb...." can be one of your titles if that's what you are optimizing for.

If anyone can show me an example of any webpage ranking #1 for any keyword with a footer stuffed like that, I would love to see it and will stand corrected.

Hope that helped....
I have literally hundreds of website pages at the top of Google making use of similar principles although I don't do it quite the same way.

For that matter, I have a friend/former client who does use the techniques being discussed, and he also ranks at the top for many terms.

If you've been keeping an eye on Google (as Big Brother) for a while, you have probably noticed that there's plenty of stuff that misses their algorithm's eyes. Google would love to have you think so, but their eyes are definitely not everywhere all the time.

Arrow How to do it correctly in 2015

This topic dates back to 2010, with the previous post in March 2013. It's now 4 May 2015 and things have changed. A lot.

Since 2013 we've had several major updates to Google's search algorithm, and Google Places and Google+ Local have both come and gone!

The latest offering from Google is its Google My Business platform, launched in the second half of 2014.

This is definitely worth checking out and registering an account. It's free, it works and it integrates ALL of Google's services, especially for local businesses.

This FREE Fast Start Guide to Google My Business is available for download from the link below. (No sign-up required.)

Notes: The report is intended for Australian businesses, but it applies to local businesses everywhere. It will open in a new browser window: you can download and save it to your hard drive from the control panel that appears at the foot of the page.

It does help. Makes the search engines believe that you are a genuine website owner and also helps improve your local ranking.
