Default 404 Errors

I know google says 404 errors don't really affect SEO, but has anyone noticed positive results after fixing some?

Thanks.

Yes and no. having a 404 that the Search engine finds is not going to hurt you, it will eventualy remove it from its index, but if you have a broken link pointing to a 404 then yes you are leaking PR.

The 404 error most will not directly impact SEO but there will be continuous down fall of website ranking and traffic. Mainly there are three types of 404 errors and are
External 404
Outgoing 404
Internal 404

404 pages are those that no longer exist but are still indexed by Google. It might affect your bounce rate and duration on site if visitors are still finding such pages.

But usually, it's just the crawlers as Google crawlers regularly crawl websites.

You can do an easy fix. You can redirect those pages to your home page or to pages within your site that's similar to that 404 page.

Don't just look 404 error page as a ranking factor. 404 error page helps users to stay on your website. When a user typed or click on a broken link he has no idea whats gone wrong and there are chances that he or she will bounce back, But if you have a customize 404 error page on your website It will help user a lot, So try to make 404 error page more user friendly and provide all the important links to the users. It will help user to navigate on their desired page.
