Default New Article - Google's Paid Search Vs. Organic Results A Rickety Wall Of Separation

Authored by: Scott Buresh

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/sco...-results-a.php

A Snippet:

The good people at Google have long maintained that there is a Chinese Wall between paid search results and organic results that is, the department responsible for advertising is completely separate from the department responsible for organic search engine placement. The company insists that Google Adwords is a completely separate entity than the Google search engine, and never the twain shall meet. This all sounds very good, in theory.

Unhappy Adwords vs. Organic - Correlation?

I have witnessed what appears to be a strong correlation between paid clicks and organic clicks on Google. Every time I make a change that affects the budget (either directly by changing the budget, or pausing ad groups), the organic click percentage seems to follow the change in paid clicks. I have noticed this over the past several months. It seems that our paid click to Google organic click ratio has hit a "Chinese Wall."

Our web site is fairly new (about 10 months), and has achieved a ranking of "2". Is this a normal pace, or am I not paying enough?

Welcome aboard

Honestly growing?, I do not think the conclusions you are making are correct. Based on my experience your adwords ppc budget does not directly influence your rankings as you are describing.

The article does not contend that sort of correlation exists, instead it gives examples of Google giving organic 'assistance' to particular clients. The actual adwords budget and organic rankings really are not connected - and the article indicates that if even so it would be a stretch to say.

When you have a new site like yours - 10 months - you will notice rankings fluctuate. This may coincide with adwords budget - but not because of each other.

A 2 is relatively low - but on track for a new site. I do think improving the number of links from other sites to yours would make your rankings better and more consistent. I just put together this thread on improving your link popularity. Hope it helps, and best of luck!
