Default What are you using to capture and send email newsletters

Is there a php application or other application you are using to store email addresses as people sign up? Can you use the database to send the emails?

I could write one but I figure someone has done it better.

My tip of the day since you are going to shorten my dev time. Check out basecamphq.com . Its an online project management tool. You can collaborate with anyone on any project. ToDo lists, messages, writeboards, milestones, file swapping, etc.

Actually, I am using AWeber.com, but have recently found out some not-to-good info about them. Now I think I should look into finding a new list host.

I pay for a list host, I don't use individual scripts, etc.

Anybody have any experience with ConstantContact or any of the other list hosts?

Aweber - I just emailed them inquiring on their services. What's up?

I found a free maillist manager and emailer. It is a PHP/mySQL application so techies can modify the heck out of it. The templates are kind of simple but you can use/forward an HTML formatted page. I may install it just to try it out.

see PHPList at http://tincan.co.uk/

I have been using AWeber for about 10 years. Here's why...

1. A company's reputation has a lot to do with the delivery rate. The owner of AWeber is tight with all the major email ISPs and attends all the key industry meetings.

2. If you use the double opt-in, you are protecting yourself from spam complaints. AWeber will have a record. Spam complaints can take a lot of your time and can result in stiff fines. Secondly, I have been told by good authorities that companies (like AWeber) use different servers to send out emails that have been double opted-in. The email ISPs recognize these and deliver a higher percentage of emails that those sent that have not double opted-in.

3. Installing an email solution on your server is a hassle and can land you in hot water. It's just not worth saving the few bucks a month a quality service costs.

Another email account I have is with 1ShoppingCart. Get Response is another quality service you can check out.

If you are using Wordpress CMS, then you can use either Newsletter plugin / Subscribe 2 plugin to send daily news letter to your subscribers.

We used Constant Contact as our primary email service for years, and recently switched to a home-grown solution to do some in-depth triggered email campaigns. That said, for basic email functionality and ease of use, Constant Contact is great. The pre-existing templates are super-helpful if you don't have access to a graphic designer. Constant Contact has recently added the ability to do triggered emails, although I am not sure to what extent. We did have some issues with the performance of the Constant Contact website, but that could have been an internal issue as well.
