If you want to increase the length of time a visitor sticks, put videos on your site.

All good points here, but something no one has brought up is, what is the goal of your website? And, is it accomplishing that goal.

Is your goal to keep people reading or viewing for a specific amount of time? or, is it designed to build an email list, create a lead or to make a sale? Whatever the goal of the site is, that is what matters.

I don't care if people are on my site for one or thirty minutes, the only thing that really matters is whether or not they took the action that I wanted them to take.

This is right on the money. You should be able to easily explain how visitors spending more time on your site is better your business. More time isn't always better. Consider your support site. You could easily imagine a situation where long visit times are bad because it means people are unable to find the information they need quickly.

That's it if people don't see what they are looking for the exit fast. If the site is confusing they leave also.

Default Great read!

It's very true. There is a lot that people overlook when building their sites. It's about SEO but you need to make sure there is going to be something worth staying for before you focus on getting people to come.

If you don't know this answer, you should. As a webmaster, I can't tell you how many businesses (1) don't know that answer and more importantly (2) when they found out, how surprised they were to learn it was less than one minute!!

So my point is this: if your visitors are hanging around on your website for less than one minute, then SEO isn't your problem...it's something about your website that isn't *keeping* then there once they land. If you have a short average visitor time, fix that first, then work on your SEO!
i am agree with you its not seo problem its the problem in web content

The time spent in a typical visit to my site is roughly twelve minutes, with 43 seconds spent on each pageview.

If course this goes up and down, and it depends where the traffic comes from.

It is really not surprising that many websites average visitor stays for less than one minute. This is because the back button is right there and studies have shown that browsers expect to be able to find the content they are looking for in 30 seconds. Of course SEO is important so that people looking for relevant keywords will make it to your site but the main issue is with your menu and site construction as well as having good content.
