Submitting your .xml site map to the search engines is important as already stated. You can monitor everything Google knows about your site through Google webmaster tools and like most other Google tools is free.
Another way I've been able to get web pages indexed is through back links, especially from high PR (Page rank) sites. Normally a link from a PR4 or higher site will get you indexed quickly.
A couple sites you can easily get links from, although they are not free, are www.webwire.com
PR5 & $25 submission fee and www.prweb.com
PR7 $150.00 submission fee. I should have mentioned these are press release sites. You can write your own press release but be sure you write it in the third person, as if it were being written by someone interviewing you.
One more way is video, you can link a video back to the webpage you want to get indexed. Google owns YouTube so a link back to your site from YouTube is a good one as well.
Of course everything above is good info, pinging www.pingler.com
will do this for you.
Hope this helps.
