There is a couple of things to consider with the domain extensions.

You need to know where your audience will be. For instance in Australia
we use .com.au

Research suggests that if you have a .com.au you will be seen as

'Australian Made' which can count a lot towards customer trust when first dealing with you.

.com for instance put Australian customers in mind of the USA. The clients that get this impression often think that you could be hard to deal with simply because of timezone issues.

Of course, this isn't really the case and a .com could be anywhere around the world. But I'v done my own research into this and read research done by others and it supports the theory.

Now, if you are looking for a world wide customer base then a .com might be a good choice because of it's global appeal. But if you are looking to work with customers in your region I'd suggest a domain extension that reflects the region you are targeting.

As for .biz .net .info and all the rest of that type. The only reason I'd purchase a domain with this extension is if I really needed the name and couldn't get the .com or regional name.

If you purchased domain.biz for instance. No matter how much you promote your brand as domain.biz people will put in domain.com or their regional extension, whether that be .com.au .co.uk or something similar.

They may be worth something one day. But for now they are second class citizens.

First, you try to concentrate on the keywords. You can check the keywords competitionf or the travel . Then you can have a domain name of your prescribed one.

I know this topic is getting old but Im dealing with this right now....I really see both sides of the fence here... I think one needs to brand at the site rather then at the domain...you can lose a prospect quick if he/she "thinks" they know what your promoting, so if your small to medium...you need the curious prospect to poke his/her head in to see without guessing ....so Im voting on the keyword rich domain where the prospect will be lead to what they are in search of....I have a brand I am very proud of and would love to use it ....but it will have a nice impact when they see it first at the site...then from then on.

someone said to try getting both...I think thats your best bet really.

just for fun answer where these will take you before you look;

1.www.spam.com = is it the food? or about junk email complaints?
2.www.pizza.com = do you think you know who has this?
3.www.gitrdone.com = A handymans website or larry the cable guy?
4.www.jaws.com = all about the movie jaws or just another web server?
