Default Confused About Http://domain.*, Vs. Www.domain.*

When registering my blog with the major search engines, I've noticed that you can list it as both "www.domain.whatever" or simply as "http://domain.whatever".

I know that you can type either into a browsers address bar and get to the site, but I'm confused about what the difference is. I'm assuming there's a difference since you can submit it both ways.

My 2 questions are... Can someone shed some light on the differences and should I be submitting my site to search engines in both ways?

Thanks in advance

The best answer is... quit submitting your site. You're wasting your time. You are getting hung up on things that don't matter. CONTENT is king and learn the basics of SEO. That will help. Everything else you're concerned about is wasting your time.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

I agree with bethebest. Your name at the end of the day means nothing on there. Your google ranking and seo is determined by your site content. Work on it and do not bother with submitting your domain.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I guess my worrying about this was sorta like making the bed while the house is burning down.

Submitting my domain to search engines is now off my priority list

Good baresull!
Glad we could convince you. Now, go to work on:

1-Unique Page Titles for EVERY PAGE... use terms that people will enter into search engines

2- Relevant meta descriptions on each page

3- Content... good content... there is a thread on this form I responded to earlier today... it was all about content being king. It is. Find that thread and you will do well.

Good luck!

I'd suggest use the version without WWW everywhere.

However, it does not make any impact, even you should always try for www.stuff etc.

301 redirect one to the other.. search engines may see these as 2 sites with duplicate content. although this does not seam to be a big issue with the big 3 when you login as to google webmaster this is recommended by them.

I do not agree with the advice to not submit your site to search engines. Certainly, content is important, seo is important, etc. and it is true that search engines will find your site eventually if you don't submit it, but it only takes a minute to submit the site to the major SEs, so why not do it?

If you upload a website onto a hosting server and do not link to it yourself from any other website, how will anybody else find it to link to it and if no-one is linking to your new site, how will the SEs find it? Maybe they will, eventually, but you might as well help them along, as it takes so little time. I always submit using www.Addme.com

Easy, simple, and very quick.
