Anyone doing really well networking on Twitter?

Tips, third party software, who are you connecting to?

I do not recommend third party software. You want true followers, not "purchased" followers or even worse bots.

It is easy to get followers and build your twitter fan base. It involves following people who you have similar interests or are industry related. Then, reply to their tweets, or retweet their posts if you think they are good. Engage in conversations with them. This lets them know your a true follower and they will tend to re-tweet and reply back. When you do this back and forth your tweets goes to THEIR followers. If they see you and like you they will follow you, building your following. You can also follow conversations or trending topics and post based on those also. That will go out to a lot of twits as well who may follow you if you have something interesting to say.

It does take time. Anyone that says they can get a thousand a day are usually full of it! There is a lot of free information out there to help you as well. Any specific questions feel free to ask. I am no expert but I help people market theirs and am getting mine going also. Not my primary tool for my business.

Not for today, but something to keep an eye on is that there is some buzz about twitter including advertising in tweets soon ...

I am not a big user or fan of the entire 'social' network. Having just started a new venture, we worked with a very experienced marketing/advertising lady that really knew her stuff. What we really got clear is that you use these networks to GENERATE LEADS... not to sell.

Create the buzz on the networks... those leads will turn into sales. If you look at it JUST for lead generation, I think you start to develop your own methods and strategies.

I have found that the more tweets I make the more organic followers I acquire. The see my tweets and follow me. So it is important to make 40 to 60 tweets a day.

As with any relationship you need to water it in order for it to grow. It takes time to develop relationships on Twitter, but if you keep at it and are sincere about it, it will come. Remember the object is to network not to sell.

For third party, we use Hootsuite. It allows us to monitor different lists we've set up but creating separate columns. When you follow a number of people it can be cumbersome to monitor the main feed.

It also allows us to research new followers, search keywords by location etc. Granted you can do all of this through Twitter directly, but we like the fact that we can track clicks, Google analytics and Facebook through one tool.

As with anything it's like going to a networking event, only online. Be genuine, provide value and don't focus strictly on sales. Like an earlier poster mentioned think of it as lead generation, not another broadcasting tool.

I have seen a few companies offer software which monitors twitter for the keywords you target then notifies you once someone has them in their tweet. That may be useful.

I think a lot of people on Twitter enjoy seeing pictures of what you are doing or even video. People love photos and they really add to the Twitter experience. Digital cameras and phones are so easy to use now it is easy to make any twitter experience visual. Here are a few of the Twitter picture apps I like:
