I'll throw in a slightly different perspective.

I think it was a couple years ago, but it leaked out at a search marketing conference that registering your domain for multiple years may help you in the search engines. It makes some sense.

Not more than a month later, one of the major domain registrars was heavily advertising Register your domain for multiple years to raise your Google rankings. It made me cringe... really bad. That was taking a rumor or a hint and turning it into guarantee.

My thoughts? If you plan to have the same Web site for years, ya' might as well do it. It will save you a few bucks on registrar fees. If it gives you a very slight edge in the engines, so be it.

I wonder if this isn't a myth given some credence by the google sandbox.....?

I liked Jennifer's article, thought it was well thought out and sensible.

Well, the AGE of a domain is certainly a factor to consider because the OLDER a domain name the more value it has in Googles eyes.

Thats why using the wayback machine and an expired domain name can do wonders for ranking and indexing in terms of SEO
