Maybe I'm confused or just fail to grasp something important here - but I really don't see the point of signing up to any these sites. While a few of them are important, like Technorati and Bloglines, they automatically pick up on any changes or new posts you make anyway, regardless of you 'signing up.'

Many of these sites come across as small little wannabee companies out to make money through Google Ads and the gullibility of bloggers who think they can somehow 'buy' awareness and exposure.

The ONE thing we've learned over the years is that when it comes to blogging, CONTENT is king. All the rest - listings on third party blog sites, 'tricks' to get ranked higher by search engines, writing the type of posts the 'experts' say you should be writing, is pretty much meaningless.

Consistently good quality content is what makes a blog successful. Do any of you read blogs that do not carry consistently good quality content, and if you do, do you ever return? It doesn't matter how many blogging sites list you if you're writing dull and boring posts that nobody wants to read.

And before someone says it - yes they provide incoming links, but if you have good content, real, genuine people will choose to link to you anyway.

That's my opinion, but I could be wrong.

I am a beginner here on building my site traffic. I have heard about blog submission to increase traffic. At the same time, I am still a bit confused on how to do so. I am assuming to use key words, but what else? When I looked at the sites that everyone mentioned, it appeared that other submissions were like advertisements. I do marriage counseling and would love to increase my traffic and get higher up on the search engine. Depending on the search term, I might be on the first few pages or never show up (well after page 6 I stop looking). Would this help? Do you have any suggestions?
I had a friend that paid a lot of money for blog submission. Is it worth the moeny? Or can I do it on my own?
