Google Panda update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value in content. On the other hand, Google Penguin is an “important algorithm change targeted at web spam.

Panda is directed more towards your on-page optimization - specifically low quality content and over-optimization.

Penguin is more about your backlink profile. It deals with spammy link building techniques.

Keep your content high quality, useful, and original. Keep your backlink profile natural and stay away from crappy links. Then, you will be ok.

Panda is used to demote websites and webpages with abysmal content quality. Penguin is used to obliterate spam activities.

The main difference between Google Panda and Penguin is that the Panda is penalized for low quality content. On other hand, Penguin is penalized for black hat SEO like low quality links, keyword stuffing, over optimization etc.

Hello,
*Google Panda update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites that means sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful.
*Google Penguin update is an important algorithm change targeted at webspam. The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines.

Google Panda is the algorithm update of Google which is released in February 2011. The websites which have a low quality and duplicate content is suffers by the penalty of Google under the update of Panda.

Google Penguin is the algorithm update of Google which is released in April 2012. The websites which do black hat techniques for get result in short time in Google SERP and violates the guidelines of Google webmasters are effected by penalty under the update of penguin.

There are many low quality sites which are ranking using Black hat techniques. To penalize such site, there was a Panda update.

Penguin update was relating to the backlinks i.e. type of links. There need for the proper division of follow and nofollow links, and variation in the use of anchor text.
