Default Best Explanation Of Google Page Rank. Warning Better Be Good At Math!

This site contains the best explanation of Google page rank I have ever seen. I am in no way affiliated with this site, but after reading it entirely (SEVERAL TIMES) I have a sound understanding of how Google uses links to determine page rank, and how you can go WRONG with linking.

However I will warn you, if you are not well versed in math, this will be impossible to understand. Lucikly I was a great math student

Thanks for the providing the resource for the explanation. I never understood where it came from, or what people were talking about.

Thanks for sharing that Jason. Cheers!

I think it can be important to understand link structure from the engines standpoint, but I'd take it with a grain of salt. Especially, these days as many of these resources are based on the original pagerank formula's that were publically published (part of days with Stanford). To say google ranks, updates or even spiders sites in the same way as then ... is a stretch based on my experiences. While link structure is important, just keep it natural and you will be fine (aka, don't try to manipulate links for pagerank).

That said, one of the first attempts I remember to explain pagerank was Chris Ridings paper - PageRank Uncovered. I'm not sure of original url, but if you search "Chris Ridings" and "PageRank Uncovered" you'll find a long paper in pdf. Its well worth it to print/read.

Phil Craven has also spent more than a little time explaining it -

Most of these overlap, but its good to read others viewpoint.

I agree with Logan here. Google admit to introducing up to TEN algo changes per DAY, the original PR papers are so way off the mark they are almost worthless. BUT if PR is what you need so you can sell your PR valued links then I guess it is important.
