Default How To Choose Best Coupon Strategy For Small Business

For most small businesses sending out coupons is a fact of life. In this difficult economic environment, when consumers are strapped for money and are watching their purse strings carefully, it is more important than ever to use coupons to entice customers to come to your business.

While it is important and imperative to use the coupons to improve your sales or at least hold to the customers you already have; you also have to have a good plan in place to use them effectively.

What are the different situations in which coupons can help achieve the results you are looking for?

When I worked in CPG coupons were definately a way of life. When you run them year after year, you end up training consumers to expect them but stop running them and expect sales declines!

It really did feel like we were buying sales, so I have recently become inspired to something MORE than just give companies a way to offer coupons.

I've started a new type of company, based on volunteerism and cause marketing called The Volunteer Advantage. Through our site, volunteers can convert the number of hours they volunteer into points. These points can be redeemed for rewards and coupons offerred by local and national businesses. I am looking to support volunteerism while offer businesses a way to increase what I call their "share of heart!"

Coupons are definitely double edge sword. It does help with bringing new customer in; however like you said customers come to expect them all the time. In these difficult economic times they are more important than ever.

You can throw in a referral coupon that has helped many of my clients. Instead of a 50% off coupon for a purchase, have 50% your next purchase when your referral purchases blah blah.

This way you just generated 2 LTV clients instead of just getting the 1 time sale from the first customer.

Good idea! I like that. Although we're not using coupons right now, I think you have to be more creative than just XX off or all those other standards.

Even if you get people to sign up at your website to get the coupon, you're doing better than just tossing out the same old. At least when you build your list, you have a group of prospects to continue to market to.

Default Online coupon promotion?

I was wondering if anyone uses websites for promoting with discounts or coupons? I was wondering if this is effective, or not. Thinking of something like this for the holidays. I usually put together a PDF and email it to customers, but I would like a way to expand this.

Your company website would be PERFECT for this! Imagine, set up the coupon on an auto responder. Visitors sign up and get the coupons and you've got their e-mail address.

I assure you.... make the coupon a 'real value' deal for your customers. When they get the taste of that, they will pay attention to other e-mails you send them.

Keep your eye on the 'lifetime value' of your customer... not just what you're going to make on this run.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

I save the trees and install a loyalty program.
One card that acts as a coupon, gift card and loyalty card. Plus it's ll trackable. Coupons are hard to track not many businesses keep them or track them.
We created this to help local merchants and consumers.

That's definitely a good idea. Being able to track the return and determine ROI is the most important requirement of any couponing strategy in my mind.
