Default Facebook Is Going To Let Search Engines Spider Profiles

I was reading an AP article that Facebook is going to make member profiles public and available to the search engines. That naturally led me to wonder if link popularity will now play a role with Facebook profiles. Will the link spam spawn from here? or not?

Facebook is opening another window to the outside world, letting nonusers for the first time search for members' personal profile pages.

The company also plans to begin letting Google Inc., Yahoo Inc. and other search companies index portions of Facebook profiles to help nonusers more easily find them.

No idea but that's good news to those who are doing social sites. Thanks for the info, Logan.

Angry Uhhh, privacy is kinda the point of facebook

Yeah...I read something like that and I was like, why they hell would I let google
see my facebook profile?

I am much more inclined to use facebook than myspace cuz the info I post there is unavailable to others.

You catch my drift?

Yes.... sure do. There is going to be an option to opt out based on the article -

Users could choose to remain invisible in such searches.
Not much reassurance to me...

That's a curious decision. As mentioned above, it's the reason I use Facebook as opposed to MySpace.

I wonder what they feel the benefit is? I would think that it would now attract the same "segment" that ruined MySpace.

Im sure there must be some sort of privacy protection option where you can choose whether you want google to index your prof or not, so no worries and its a good news in all aspects of SEO
