Arrow Local Radio Advertising Top 10 Tips

I have been using local radio for specific points of my business for years and it has been very effective in creating an ongoing brand awareness, but more importantly in giving existing clients a reason to call in and see what new we have on offer.

For sure we all know that one of the best tools is to use a personal testimonial featuring a real life example of how the product/service worked for a particular client in a particular situation.

Next is using an immediate call to action so the listener is encouraged to call straight away to make a sales enquiry.

What are your secrets to getting the best from your radio advertising spend?

1. Getting an ad in between top shows during the day. The RJ should come up with such a phrase, which yields connection between your product/service and him in whatever manner possible. It should not just be your random ad.

If you have something interesting to say then people will listen to it.

Weíre regularly asked to begin a commercial with a siren / klaxon / car horn / explosion etc in a not so subtle attempt to make the listeners pay attention. But there really is no need (plus itís not allowed!)

A well chosen sound effect used in the right way can add a layer of atmosphere, it can generate humour, underline a point or place characters in a scene (saving you precious time having to use the voices to establish the location or situation).

But you have to ensure the sound effect that gets used is clear enough! Thereís a reason why radio stations run competitions called ďwhatís that sound?Ē Itís because a simple, ordinary, everyday sound can be unrecognisable when you have no visual clues to go by.

Good sound effects properly integrated into the script can really enhance a commercial.

My business promotions have been mainly through social media (online) and offline through radio. The business is getting much response because of the radio commercials and for that I should thanks MJM Media in Hamilton. They have some simple but responsive ideas like giving the commercial a refreshing music and an attractive and energetic voice.
Check out the demo of some commercials. http://mjmmedia.com/radio/

Getting a commercial to air can be expensive, but I have had some success ringing in as an expert commentor on topics I have interest and expertise in.

Default ways to maximize your coverage without increasing your budget.

Ask about sponsorships, contests and live events that the radio stations have to offer advertisers. All of these are categories of radio advertising that go beyond the boundaries of the typical schedule of commercials that run during regular programming.

They can be had at varying costs so itís a good idea to ask about any availability the stations have for special sponsorship opportunities. Even if the cost is the same as the commercial schedule you were considering you might come out ahead because the air personalities will often have enthusiasm about special promotions and events that the station is running and that the personalities might be involved with.

Some stations might offer special deals on day parts that arenít selling well. You have to be careful here because you donít want all of your commercials running in the overnight slot but you might want to look at Saturdays. Many people are out and about in the car on a Saturday so you might get some decent listenership at a lower rate by including Saturday in your radio commercial schedule.
