Lots of businesses have a live chat bubble/blurb these days. It is definitely good for business. Aside this, there is nothing wrong in using Facebook or other social media to bring traffic to the website. Live Chat is about engaging the visitors after they first make it to the site.

This post feels a bit like an ad, but here's my two cents anyway. Live chat on an e-commerce website can be a huge help (it helped improve my sales, anyway) but social media can still be really helpful. Social can increase your web traffic, something live chat support can not do.

Live chat is instant communication to me. Sometimes, people gets frustrated if their emails don't get a response for weeks. So with live chat service, they'll get instant response. Of course, you need someone or a group of someones ready to take the "call" 24/7.

Live chat is a good option to drive potential traffic and sales. But you should promote your business on social media channels like facebook, twitter and more. This helps to make your online presence strong.

For a moment I thought that it was a question from someone, but then it turned out to be an ad. Anyways, it seems that people are in for live support. However, I believe if you do not have a huge investment to bank upon, you will not be able to build up a live chat support, as such setups cost a lot to say the least.
