Data loss can also result with the loss of the use of a specific software. For example, you have an online CRM software that you pay an annual subscription fee to have and use. The subscription lapses and you lose access to the data. You can't access the site. Or you may have the data on your laptop but it's in a format that only the CRM can read. That could be catastrophic.

So, have backups of your important data and make sure that you have the ability to access/read them in future. I have my important data in their original format but also exported as text files or PDF. That way I can reuse the data in an emergency or if I switch to different software.
