Today, businesses are relying on data and applications like never before. Data protection has become a vital component of the IT strategy for almost every company, so much so that even a few hours of downtime can impact heavily on productivity and sales.
Most small to medium-sized business have also jumped into the fray, as they increasingly grow aware of the importance of data protection. However, most of them lack the necessary data protection due to a whole range of issues including budget constraints, accelerating data growth rates, reliance on outdated technology among others.
For instance, going by figures released by Symantec 2012 SMB Disaster Preparedness Survey, nearly seventy-five per cent of SMBs lack a disaster recovery plan, and just twenty-five per cent are ‘extremely confident’ about their ability to restore data in case of an emergency. Approximately half of these businesses back up less than sixty per cent of their data, with the rest susceptible to loss at anytime, this one according to the 2011 version of the report.
