Default Business Reply Envelope

Has anyone tried testing the response result of including a BRE in their direct mail against not including one?

I haven't tried a business reply envelope - simply because i generate responses via phone call or website. I know some large companies who still use BRE's (like my credit card lender), but i don't use them as i'm hooked to paying online or via the phone.

My guess is that a large number of people out there prefer using online and phone to respond also.

I don't have statistics but we have a number of non-profit clients that still put the #9s in their mailers specifically for the technologically challenged donors. The non-profits insist that they are mailed because they do get a number of donations by check from seniors.

Tri-win has it right on the non-profits. For most of them it is still a must have item.

Outside of that they aren't being used as frequently as they used to be. But if your offer has a clear mail order component to it it. I would test using them.

I think it depends on your target audience and their typical knowledge around computers. Kind of like Tri-Win explained, if you are dealing with seniors it’s practically essential, but otherwise it’s a bit of a waste of time.

I agree with ilovemedia on this one. It all depends on your clients. If you have clients who are not familiar with computers and technology they will still use the business reply envelopes, but most people prefer to do things online.
