Do you think you will be more or less resourceful by telling yourself that you can't do this and you can't do that and that you're screwed?
X More resourceful ___Less resourceful

Are you more likely or less likely to find a solution if you tell yourself, I can do this, I can solve this, I can find a way out of this crap?
X More likely ___Less likely

Do you feel better or worse when you say, I'm screwed? ___Better X Worse

Are you more likely to find an answer when you feel worse or when you feel better?
X When I feel better ___When I feel worse

Now, here's the big question -- Are you more likely to find someone who can help you when you act miserable, defeated and beaten down or when you have a positive, lively, can-do attitude?
___ When I am miserable X When I am positive.

Good job, Mike! Glad I didn't chase you away with my rough approach. I believe that says you have the guts to make a success of yourself.
(Test #1 - Pass)

Now, it will take plenty of work and a lot of effort on your part. But what is really important at this stage is for you to believe that you are smart enough to be capable of achieving success.

Not that you WILL achieve success - the extent of your effort will determine that - only that you are smart enough to achieve success - if you wanted it, you could.

Look around your local area - are there any people you see who you consider successful? Are they any smarter than you? Chances are they know more than you - that's how they gained success - but are they SMARTER than you?

I hope you confidently answered, "No, they are not smarter than me. They had more opportunity, perhaps - they had some luck - somebody helped them - but they are not smarter than me."

And with that knowledge, with that confidence, with that positive attitude, you will succeed.

Are you still with me, Mike? Are you ready to put in some effort and ditch the negative thinking with which you started this thread? Shall we try a few positive exercises?

That's great, Mike! So, let's get started.

Let's look at the answers you gave to my list of questions. We will come back to the first one because either I wasn't clear or your negativity is more deep-rooted than I thought. Not to worry - we'll just have to dig deeper to root it out.

You said you are more likely to find a solution if you tell yourself, I can do this, I can solve this, I can find a way out of this crap.

You said you feel worse when you say, I'm screwed.

You said you are more likely to find an answer when you feel better.

You said you are more likely to find someone who can help you when you have a positive, lively, can-do attitude.

Now, read those statements again and think about them, because I have a couple more questions relating to them --

1. You said you are more likely to find an answer when you feel better, and that you feel worse when you say, I'm screwed. As you came to this forum to find an answer, doesn't it make sense to stop saying "I'm screwed."? So, Mike - Stop saying I'm screwed. Forbid yourself from ever using that phrase again. Find some other positive phrase you can use instead and tell us here what that new phrase will be.

2. You came to this forum hoping to find a solution and you formulated your request in negative terms - "I doubt I would succeed.... My dream .. is never going to happen!" And your second post was even worse, right?. Yet your answer to my question were all positive - read them again. Why is that?

Because when you really get to thinking about your situation, it really isn't as bad as you are making it out to be.

So, your next exercise is to rewrite your second post in this thread but in positive terms. Don't change any of the facts, just write them in positive terms - starting with---

"Fortunately I'm 27 years old and have learned a few skills and developed some talent in customer service and driving commercial vehicles...."

Now, Mike - you rewrite the rest of your post in positive terms and let us see what you write.

There you are - two exercises for you to do--
1. Tell us a new phrase you will use to replace "I'm screwed."
2. Rewrite your second post in positive terms and post it here.

You seem like you know your ****, and Ive been thinking lately....

I can go to the gym to get big and muscular....but it takes time.

I can go to school to get a degree...but it takes time.

I can save money...but its takes time.

I CAN - I can do things in my life. BUT it all TAKES TIME!

So the question is, how do I get the mentality to just accept things taking time. It seems to be the biggest problem I have! I DONT WANNA WAIT!

For a while I thought I was just being lazy, but I had an "epiphany" tonight and realization that I can actually work pretty hard, when my mentality is right - ACCEPTING THAT THINGS TAKE TIME!

So how do I get the right mentality???

Fortunatly im 27 years old and although have limited skills and talents, I a do have some!

My hobbies are going down the shore which would include various thing aswell as working out.

My past jobs were customer service oreinted (Casino's and Retail) aswell as Transportation (Delivering stuff- I have a CDL that I haven't used and to be honest Id prefer to keep it that way - Im really not very interested in driving...I need more excitment)

I have 0 start up. I have 2 options here, to drop shool and work 2 jobs to build capital which would take a few years, or to stay in school and to work one job which would take even longer to build capitol but upon graudating would probably catch up!

In short...I believe I can do this...make the money I am looking to do, and not be so lazy. I believe that the thought of not getting paid much has made me lazy but I feel as if the right career (be it a business or job) and the right amount of money would greatly effect my work ethic.

Ive been trying to do that.

But my mind continues to drift to the future. "How many more pages do I have to read for this homework" , "How many more sets til Im done this workout?" "How much longer till Im off work?"

Then I get upset and frustrated that time isn't moving fast enough or that IM not moving fast enough. My whole life is a countdown...countdown til when Im done working, then a countdown to when I start working cause Im bored!

I want to change this!

When im doing something new IM GREAT AT IT!

New class in school - INTERSTING AS HELL!

New workout routine and plan - LOVE IT!

etc etc etc...

1 Month later....AHHH THIS IS BORING, I DONT WANNA DO THIS NO MORE. IM READY TO CHANGE OR GO TO THE NET LEVEL BUT I HAVENT FINISHED THE FIRST LEVEL.

This is where I get lazy and just say screw it, stop going to the gym. Start giving up on school. Stop working hard at jobs. How do I change this?

Mike - these are fabulous responses! Realizing the problem is half the solution - so you are already halfway to solving this.

Frankly, I am amazed at how quickly you changed from everything negative to seeing some of the positives in your situation. I know it can happen in an instant but so often people resist changing, as if there is something wrong with change. You, Sir, have set the ball in motion and I am going to help you keep it rolling.

Please give me an hour. I have something I must do now, but I will come back with an answer to some of your questions.
