Basics, as in real basics. Here

<html>
<head><title>TITLE GOES HERE</title></head>
<body>
<p>Test goes here</p>
</body>
</html>

That's about as basic as it gets. I would suggest you do a search for WYSIWYG editor which will let you create websites pretty easily. It's like dreamweaver or frontpage.

There are tons of web tutorials, W3Schools for instance.

Or buy a template, there are some nice cheap simple ones out there.

_detz_, nice basic.

I suggest buying a template, or some easy to use sitebuilding software. Moreover, research web design. It seems overwhelming at first, just keep plugging away. Good luck!

I don't have any web design experience. I would recommend the following...

Get a domain name ($8)
Sign up with a web hosting company that offers either a web site builder or "one button" Wordpress blogging software installation. ($3-5 / month)

I have used both WordPress and site builder software, and they both work quite well with little to no experience.

As an expirement, I built the web hosting review website that I have in my signature using "Site Build It", available through my hosting company Website Source.

So, it is really quite possible to get a decent website running for under $15.

Agree with jvance, you can get it all done for just $6.95 with 24/7 tech support. Just look around the web and you'll find plenty of good deals

GoDaddy.com - buy domain name and get free web pages. Then just cut and paste. Easy as 1-2-3.

Agreed, I built my site using a hosting companies software and it works and looks just dandy.i think to host my site and register my domain name i pay about 7 bucks a month. It's a great deal especially when you don't have time to build a site by scratch and or learn how to do it. Be careful though, I "registered " with a company who simply took my .com name and tried to sell it back to me. I had to settle for .net through the company i use now. I wont mention the companies name but they advertise .99 cent web sites, and free domain registration. Took me a week to scrub the "sucker" off my forehead that was written in permanent marker.
