Default Trolling Explained

Came across this site one day, and I thought I'd like to share them with you all.

Troll comments have a psychological reason:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/11/20...l-explanation/

What do you guys think? Makes some sense doesn't it? And boy, do I get across some comment trolls a lot in some other forums. (Not so much on sbb though, everyones is nice and helpful here : ) )

Like the last paragraph said, its good for us to be aware of what's happening when we post, or fire away that e-mail.

That is an interesting article Macnair, thank you for sharing!

I agree we don't see a lot of trolls at our forum. It is not a matter that they do post and are removed. Over the past few years, I can think of only a couple - if that.

I noticed the original source was regarding email, and this was generalized to techcrunch's blog. I wonder if a business forum is different, versus a news blog. I see a lot of trolls, for example, in the comments section of a newspaper site I visit. These are sites where people are not closely associated with them, versus a business forum - where few would want to associate their business with behavior that isn't within social norms.

Isn't it a bit of an NSS*?

I've got 20 years of University research behind me and I do tend to get annoyed at people who belittle research as either "obvious" (because they agree with it) or "wrong" (because they don't) but on this occation I'm not sure that the article does anything more than state what we all know in longer words.....?

You do have a point there simonr.

However, my initial interest in the article allays one of my observations about some people: that some people really do HAVE to have someone they can antagonize. And its much safer for them if their disembodied too.

Just a bubbling suspicion my mind, not really a researched thing. : )
