Default Why Do People Enjoy Getting Likes On Social Media Platforms?

Someone spent $800 just for getting 20K likes on Facebook or other social networks, why do people enjoy getting likes on social media platforms even they are ready to spend more money for that? I could not find exact answers for this question and needing someone explain me.

Thanks!

Maybe some people enjoy it but I think a lot of people actually think the likes will translate to money, which they don't.

I think some individuals and even companies see likes as a "reward" system. They think the more likes they have, the more value they hold.

If your likes are from relevant people, your page can get more visibility. For example Facebook page likes go viral because, if someone likes the page, shows up on personal profileís wall and news feed. And if an update contains great content, your fans may like it, comment on it, or share it with their friends. This can help you to spread your content virally through Facebook.

The problems is, with purchased likes (i.e. likes through ad campaigns) your page is showing up in feeds of people who may have no interest in your actual content or, in the worst cases, in the feeds of bot pages.

Agree, but to dive deeper, monetizing (those likes and shares) into sales done by real people is not easy. Forget the paid likes. It is tough to convert any likes into sales. Like pulling 100 bowling balls uphill. Good for branding and spreading the word, effective for events (maybe), but translating to sales is tough. An empty reward...
