Default Local Search Engine Marketing - Video Tutorial


For the last 3 months I have been working on producing a free educational resource for businesses looking to rank well in Google's Local Search Engine results.

So far I have created a video tutorial, PDF explaining it in more detail, and then a image for those that are more visual learners. All three teach a company how they can rank in Google's Top 10 Local results with out spending any money.

Before I go further I would love to get the opinion of Small Business Breif's Forum users. What do you think of the 3 resources? Did I leave any information out? Is anything unclear?

For now, I just looked at the visual image.

Good work putting that together. Overall I do think you have in place what would be considered the best practices. But, my experiences is that is a starting point. Could you do a second phase after that is completed. For instance, running a geotargeted ppc campaign with adwords is definitely part of my local marketing mix. How about signing up and getting listed in local directories, in particular the chamber of commerce as an example. just a few thoughts, but overall - yes. good work

I do appreciate your feedback. A geo-targeted PPC campaign would certainly help increase local leads/sales. I also agree getting listed in your city's chamber of commerce certainly adds to that goal; Google trusts those organization/sites and will view the reference as a trusted source. Yelp, CityPages, JudysBook, Linkedin, BBB, and other citations from trusted sources will also help.

What else do you/others feel I should add in my third tutorial? I want to keep the focused on helping businesses increase traffic, leads, and sales locally.

Great quality work, Jeff!

There are so many creative ways to market a local business online, it depends on which angle you want to take.

I think you've done a great job on the angle you chose.

Another idea is to set up a Facebook "fan" page for your business and then use Facebook Ads to drive traffic to it - the traffic is geo-targeted to the local area, of course.

Another great idea is to create short video commercials (with a strong, trackable call to action) that are blasted to many of the video sites online.

These videos can get great rankings all by themselves. (no website needed)

Online syndicated press releases can drive traffic, as can article marketing that is keyword-optimized to the chosen local search term.

Hey Jeff - just had a moment to look quickly at your video here, and I have to say you did a great job with the presentation and laying out the details of using Google.

The only thing I disliked about it, was the moving background which I found distracted from the good content. I love the look and the simple animations used, but for me the background would've been better as a static image.

Going to check out your pdf and other doc now though but I'm expecting them to look as good as the vid!
