There is an awesome new product for dropping your 125 x 125 business card. It is www.entrecard.com it has really taken off and it's a great resource! There are several blog categories. You earn credits when people drop their cards on your site..and you can use those credits to advertise your blog on others..

I've had great exposure as well.

Submit to places like blogengage as well, it gives great exposure.

Default Blog promotion

You have to take a holistic approach to promoting a blog, you can't just focus on one area.

Getting an analytics or similar account so you can track your traffic is first.
Listing your blog with search engines, blog directories is second.
Set up accounts for feeds with sites like feedburner.com, etc..
Publicize through .sig files, MySpace, Facebook, forums, etc...
Write interesting content, update frequently, often linking to similar posts on high profile blogs.
Approach other bloggers about guest spots on their blog or about posting on yours.
Tag your posts. I just started using Simple Tags for Wordpress on my personal blog and I love it.

Mainly participating in forums so 50% of my traffic is from Search Engines and 50% from forum post links. LinkedIn answers had been good source for my traffic and new contacts.
I did commenting for other blog posts meanwhile but this didn't made me much traffic so have abandoned it.

I agree with Torka... take the time to read other blogs, that are in your area...and perhaps just a little off your area..you never know whose interest you may peak .

Visit other bloggers sites and comment. Make sure the comments are useful and not just "good post! " By visiting and commenting on blogs that "follow" you will get some backlinks as well.
As Torka mentioned, link to other bloggers sites will give you trackback on THEIR site. It is impossible to blog in a vacuum and joining various communities (mybloglog, bumpzee, forums, etc) and posting on other blogs is a must.

I agree with what was said above. The best way to drive traffic to your forums is through thoughtful commenting on blogs and forums. The more that people trust your credibility the more inclined they will be to follow links to your site. In addition, as you add additional links to your site and additional content, the search engines will begin to drive additional traffic.

Wow, I was going to throw in my 2 cents but everyone seems to be doing a great job at taking the words out my mouth and saying exactly what I feel. I found a few other helpful hints here too.

How exactly do you "tag your posts"? do you mean adding a title meta tag??

Hi Amir, I think you are referring to trackback.

See this thread for more specifics -

Basically trackback allows a blogger to notify another blogger when they have posted about something they have written.
