Exclamation What's Your Favorite Blog Software?

What blog software offers you the greatest amount of functionality, flexibility and is easiest to use?

TypePad, Wordpress, Blogger, something else?

What's your favorite blog software, and why?

A newbie to Wordpress, but like it alot. Lot's of plugins and very intuitive. I've customized forums, blogs & eCommerce stores for many clients and this was one of the easiest.

I cast another vote for WordPress. Easy to set up, easy to create custom themes, very well documented, lots of plugins to extend the functionality. And you can't beat the price.

I like Wordpress, but only get 2 databases on my hosting package (which in every other way is brilliant), so I use Blogger - loads of blogs on sub-domains. I don't recommend their default archiving because it duplicates too much of the content in monthly/weekly/daily archives (one of the three - your choice!).

Yeah, I'm a Blogger user as well.

It does everything I need it to do, so I'm very happy with it.

When setting up the config file in a WP install, you can specify different table prefixes for each blog, so you can include more than one blog in a single database.

My problem with Blogger is the terms of service. I prefer to have a little more control over my own fate than what Blogger (or any other hosted blog service) allows.

Quote:
From the Blogger TOS:
Google also reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue the Service with or without notice at any time and without any liability to you....
Google may, in its sole discretion, modify or revise the Blogger Content Policy at any time, and you agree to be bound by such modifications or revisions....
Google retains the right to create limits on use and storage at our sole discretion at any time with or without notice....
Google furthermore reserves the right to refuse to accept, post, display or transmit any Content in its sole discretion....
Google may, in its sole discretion, at any time and for any reason, terminate the Service, terminate this Agreement, or suspend or terminate your account....

Torka, I hear you.

However, the control issue is a delusion.

The fact of the matter is no matter which service we use, we have a limited amount of control. These are all huge corporations we're talking about, that in the end can do exactly what they please, whether it's in their TOS or not.

Aquapearl, if you check out the URL in my signature, you'll notice it doesn't say blogspot.com.

That's because Blogger gives you the option of using your own domain name, which was a huge determining factor in my decision to use Blogger.

Oh, yeah, exactly... which is why I host my own WP installation, and have database backups emailed daily to an account on a different ISP from the one where the WP blog itself lives. And I keep local backup copies of all my theme and plugin files.

The only TOS I have to worry about is my ISP's. I've been with them for a long, long time and they have a very liberal TOS, so I feel pretty safe there. But should they suddenly decide they don't like what I'm doing and kick me off, I can restore the entire blog from scratch in a matter of hours at a new ISP.

You're absolutely right, 100% control of pretty much anything is an illusion. But with a self-hosted WP setup, I feel as though I come closer than I might otherwise.
