Default How Often Do You Maintain Your Social Networking Profiles?

I just read bdorland post about the article that recommended social networking. So far I have fallen into the category of people who just got semi-frustrated because I was not seeing any results from these sites. I got discouraged after realizing that to make it work I would seemingly have to go wild inviting others, etc. I also got bombarded on some sites with wwwaayyy too many people asking to add me to their list that it seemed more of a spam thing. I'd love to hear how often I should maintain these sites to make them profitable. Do you normally keep tabs on your networking sites daily or how do you do it? I'd love to have advice on this!

I use a particular browser called Galeon which has as it's homepage all my favorites, by category. One such category is called 'networking' and in it are all the sites, such as this on, that I visit. I particularly like that way of seeing my sites, as it were, because it reminds me of which ones I've not visited recently.

So, whenever I've got 10 mins to spare (yeah, right!) I boot up my browser and hit one or two that I've not visited recently.

It's semi-organised! but it doesn't dominate my life.

simonr, I guess you're running Linux huh? Ubuntu by chance? I'm running Xubuntu on an old computer with the XFCE interface, so Galeon wouldn't work for me. My Linux machine is pretty much relegated to "experimental" use right now. Boy, you can eat up lots of time messing around with Linux, but it's fun.

Hey Mindy...The power of a social networking site really comes down to the basics of selling, building relationships and leveraging those relationships. Filling out your profile and keeping it updated will bring some benefits, as my article mentioned, but if you are really trying to use a social networking site to generate serious business, you have to use the site's networking tools to make connections and leverage those connections to open doors for you.

Personally, I’d love to see a bunch of these tools combined so I’d only have to log into one place. Half of the sites I have membership to are for a single friend who uses that service exclusively. But Some social networks on the other hand, allows me to have multiple profiles in single account to separate my personal and professional lives.
