Exclamation 14 Popular SEO Myths Examined

With so much misinformation about SEO having been dispensed over the years, it's hard to know what's true and isn't true - making it all the more difficult to separate the proverbial wheat from the chaff, as it were. Concerned about the potential harm misinformation about SEO can ultimately cause, I decided to compile an alphabetical listing of the most popular and persistent SEO myths, to either debunk or confirm their factuality.

1. Adwords

Since the arrival of Google Adwords, there has been an ongoing debate over whether or not running an Adwords campaign can improve search engine rankings. Continue reading 14 Popular SEO Myths Examined.

That's an interesting article David.

Picking up on one of the items the FFAs (Free For Alls).

What is the difference in real terms/SEO terms between one of these and one of the myriad of web listing directories that have a link, a line of text and maybe 5 tags. They seem pretty pointless to me as much as these FFAs.

Any views on that?

I thank you for the interesting post especially about the Page Rank part. I'm still trying to expand my knowledge and hopefully I can know all the ins and outs soon.

I've read about the Header issues here in our forum. I basically can say that although headers don't play any part on SEO, it does aesthetically. People's eyes needs to be drawn to the title of the page. When they see the title, it's the writer's job to make it as attracting but not overselling at the same time.

Obviously, it depends on the directory. Some directories are very useful such as Yahoo's directory or DMOZ. They provide useful information and have a purpose. They link to legitimate companies that provide a legitimate service. That being said, I agree with you. Many directories are useless. They serve no real purpose, other than to make money by charging for listings.

However, the main difference between FFA pages and directories is, all FFA pages are useless. The companies they link to are all, for the most part, scams.

Thank you for your feedback everyone.

Kaye, you said my article looks interesting.

Looks interesting? That's something someone usually says when they haven't actually read something. Did you read my article? If you haven't, you should. I think you'll find it very helpful.

Alt tags are used to display a short text description of an image. It gets displayed when you hover your mouse over the graphic. But are Alt tags an important part of SEO?
Title tags should be doing this instead of ALT tags. ALT tags are used to show a short description if an image failed to load properly. Title tags will show a picture's description when you hovered on it.
