Everyone today is talking about social media and its benefits to SEO community but is it really effective and can be assumed as alternative of SEO?

Most definitely not can it replace SEO, teamed with SEO they can work very well together, the social end of the market is far different to the end users who are buying on Google

You engage differently with your social media than you do with your website, I have found with the A/B split testing on adverts including the testing with adverts vs page likes - the page likes goes well and you grow your audience and page but with the selling of products - well they don't convert so well

They land on the website, complete the shopping cart but don't check out

I am always rolling out new ads and testing, it could be just me and I am selling the wrong message or image - I certainly hope it's not that!

I do believe you need a bit of both these days, you can network much better with social media, reach people you never thought possible to chat with and start new friendships with some degree of ease, I do not think that social media will ever replace a good SEO'd website but teamed together they are a strong force - a good balance.

Many Facebookers for example are there to play games, chat to friends, post images on people's walls, create events and share their own images (a good percentage of users I would say).

I used to run support groups on Yahoo!, they missed a thing or two where forums are concerned - missed the boat - Facebook came along and today I am still trying to delete that Yahoo! group because Facebook grew so quickly it was impossible to manage them both successfully - Yahoo! back in the day had the best forums of that manner, now they pale in comparison and are a pain to use and manage.

So in my long winded way, no I don't think it is an alternative to SEO

Simone

Default Is SMO Really Alternative Of SEO?

SMO and SEO are totally different in nature and functions. SMO cannot be an alternative of SEO. Social Media Optimization (SMO) is a set of methods for generating publicity through social media, online communities and community websites.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP).

Yes, SMO is really effective. Increased my sites traffic after doing it for 1 month. No, it can't replace SEO. The two techniques go hand in hand.

Both are important. In SEO On page and Off page can be used to get keyword ranking and get organic traffic to the site. IN SMO you can promote your business, you can relate with millions of people , In SMM you can join the groups of the same industry so you can share and get knowledge for your business.

Hello,

SMO is helpful in SEO but both are totally different.

SEO has been a common activity of website owners for years now. It is no doubt effective. Search Engines sends tons of free traffic to those with the high rankings for popular search terms.

While Social media optimization has only become popular in the past few years as the use of social networking sites has exploded. When compared with successful SEO, social media traffic is less steady.

Both are helpful to get rank in SERP.

Thanks and Regards,

Andy

Social media is really helpful and effective and benefits a lot to SEO community but i won't say it is an alternate because they work simultaneously, both of them compliment each other.

SMO and SEO are two different tasks to do. SEO enhances site visibility and SMO increases site credibility. One can not replace the other. They both are distinct and having their own unique functions.
