Default Sites Losing Traffic

I’ve recently noticed, since around the 20th of October, certain sites are losing visitors. Google Analytics dashboard reveals that traffic is decreasing steadily for about a week. This is happening in more than one site.

What’s wrong people? Can someone explain? Besides Panda and the usual stuff about contents, etc. has something new turned up? Like some new parameter being introduced in ranking? Or something else?

If you're talking about Google traffic, there was a minor algorithmic update on the 13th. That about fits your time frame.

Lots of sites were hit around that time. It was a Panda update. The only thing to do is keep your site fresh - regularly update and add to the content as much as possible and continuously work on backlinks. Absolutely anything you can think of to add value to your site visitors, do. It's a non-stop battle really but these algorithm changes definitely keep us on our toes!

I'm not sure one week is a long enough period of time to determine whether or not you are seeing a sustained drop off. Fluctuations happen from time to time so unless you are seeing a drastic reduction (20% or more) I wouldn't worry about it.

You could always dig deeper into your google analytics account to determine which keywords are dropping off and investigate those first.

Remember to keep sites sticky, consider using video more so Google are seeing people on your sites fro longer.

You have to look into which traffic is going down: is it search traffic or traffic from other sources? And if it is search traffic is it branded terms or non-branded. Until you analyse these specifics you cannot put it down to whether it is due to a Google update or not.

I have heard that Google is changing its policy about search and thus may be the site ranking and that's why the site lose traffic.

One week is not enough time to decide and make wide changes on. If you build lots of high quality pages, with your own original and useful content, you shouldn't be at the whim of search engine fluctuations (as much).

Focus on quality on human visitors. Give them what they want. Search engines will follow.
