Default Google Changes To All Personalized Search Results

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/...-everyone.html

Quote:
Previously, we only offered Personalized Search for signed-in users, and only when they had Web History enabled on their Google Accounts. What we're doing today is expanding Personalized Search so that we can provide it to signed-out users as well. This addition enables us to customize search results for you based upon 180 days of search activity linked to an anonymous cookie in your browser.
That is a pretty big shift, which is going to make a lot of waves/noise in the search marketing circles.

I'll be watching my referrals, but I don't really anticipate that this is going to have a big impact on my sites organic traffic. Maybe even a good thing.

Regardless, google deserves a for their rollout of this one, imo.

It's definitely a big change. I am not sure what to think about this yet. I hope it helps. It seem like if google does this it would help sites that are popular instead of sites with relevant content.

Hi, Logan

Thanks for your information.

For me, I really don't like the this feature for it always return confusing results from viewing of SEO purposes. And, I do think it would not be a good attempt in increasing searchers experiences.

Regards,

I really don't get this move, except that in the long run it will likely increase CTR on their PPC and CPA ads for Google users looking for content they haven't already seen. For Google, it's a money grab. For the end user, it's really (IMHO) going to create a negative experience over time.

Oh, and hi everyone... I haven't posted in a while

I have to agree with KevinW - Google does try to improve the users experience - but they have to mash that with making a buck and keeping their spot on Wall Street. I guess only time will tell. But, this is also a good business case study - to keep trying things to see what works and what doesn't. If this provide negative expereiences, google will drop it and try something else.
