Default Laptop Wireless Friz

I am using INTEL Pro wireless on a dell ( I know dell are not good but it was cheap).
My wireless has just up and died? It shows as disbled even tho its enabled in networking, and in windows w.less manager. I checked drivers, checked hardware status....no joy.
Enet (cat5) connection wont work either. it registers when i pull the cable out, but not while its plugged in...I know its not the network as I am on it right now with 3 other pc's (wireless and wired). Any advice?

Hi Hipshot, I don't think you are being ignored but my approach is to put it in a box and mail it off with your fingers crossed that it comes back some day.

Hello Hipshot,
Your cheapest alternative would be to pick up either a USB or PCMCIA wireless adapter. Troubleshooting this issue for even a portion of an hour with a professional is most likely going to cost you more than the $30-$45 I've seen them selling for at Wal-Mart.

All of the following assumes that you haven't "upgraded" to Vista from XP:

Re: Wireless; did you check to make sure the physical switch is in the "on" position? On many laptops, the wireless switch is located right by the display open latch, on the front edge of the computer. It's pretty easy to accidentally switch your wireless "off" while opening the laptop's display.

Re: Wired; it is possible (for both issues) that your bridge software has become corrupt for some unknowable reason. Using your Control Panel (logged in as an admin), go to your Network and delete the network bridge in there, then go to Hardware => Device Manager and delete the Intel Pro wireless in there, then reboot. Windows will reinstall the software it needs (the bridge and the wireless). The bridge repair should get your wired connection working, and the wireless should be refreshed, as well ... but check to make sure that the wireless switch that I mentioned is turned "on", too.

Let us know what happens!

Hipshot

If all else fails, back up your personal data and do a system restore back to a known date that you remember it working. If still not working you may have a mobo problem......if it starts to work again, try to remember what you updated or installed right before it failed.

Good Luck.
