first of all you should try zone alarm anti virus, and then implement any of the anti viruses like kaspersky or norton kaspersky fails at the root level I have 2012 version still I was infected by a malware

Everyone has own choice. Some like McAfee, some Norton & some others. Like me, I will suggest Kaspersky. Because it is easy to manage compared to McAfee and Norton. Choice is Yours.

There's a test run of anti-virus to see their performance. I forgot link where I got it, but it's here online. Guess which software made to number one.

Avira. And I have it in my PC now.

I use NOD ESET Smart Security and satisfied with it. Earlier I tried Avast also. Good antivirus program.

If you need a paid antivirus, I will strongly suggest you to buy Kaspersky pure or Kaspersky Internet Security

If you are looking for a cheaper option use Avast Internet Security.
