Default Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Tax Software

Here is one on tax software.

"One of the main advantages of using a tax software program is that they are fairly easy and quick to use. Tax software programs are usually step-by-step; therefore, many individuals can complete a tax return faster than on traditional paper and in less than half of time."

How many of you use tax software? Which program do you use?

Default software is a tool

A common misconception is that tax software replaces a professional and is less expensive. It is very strange why the two are even compared. Do we compare a plumber to a plumber's wrench, an electrician to an outlet, a construction worker to a piece of lumber.
Yes a plumbers wrench, an electric outlet & a piece of lumber are all less expensive than the cost of the plumber, electrician & construction worker.
Why because they are tools.
What is tax software it is a tool, and like all tools it depends upon the knowledge, expertize & experience of the person using the tool as to the standard of the job.
You cannot compare the price of a tool with the cost of a professional, it does not make any sense, unless we all learn to do everything ourself & never pay for anything, it does not make any sense!

I've found that tax software is a time-saver, but I feel comfortable doing my own taxes, software or no. If I ever get out of my depth I'm going to hire a professional. I think the above statement is a bit off-base, because for example, a wrench does not come with an illustrated step-by-step guide to fixing your sink...
