Hi PiaKS,

When I hired my first employee the process was overwhelming. So many resumes to go through, many of the just sent because it was job opening. You'd think they didn't read the job description.

Once I weeded through the resumes it was time to schedule interviews. Since I was hiring for an executive assistant most, if not all, were women. Now my buddies in the office wanted me to hire the best looking regardless of qualification. That wasn't happening.

The one I selected was chosen because she took the time to research my company before coming to the interview, came with a print out of the web page. And had a basic understand of what we did and could discuss it. That combined with here skill got her the job.

She was with me for 6 years. Best hire I ever made.

What a good question. I have probably made every single mistake there's to make. In hindsight, here's what I'd say.

You definitely have to be very selective about the clients. Hire both for skills and personality (do they take feedback well etc).

And, most importantly hire the BEST you can afford. Don't hire someone with lower skill level just to save some money on the hourly wage/salary. Training and substandard employees are very costly.

While hiring my first employee I was a little bit nervous too. A interviewed around 20 persons for the job and screened one at last which I though most skilled and good character.
