Smile Marketing Tips Needed For New & Unique Business

I just opened a narcotic detection service company using trained canines.

I am the ONLY company in my city who offers these services currently.

I would like to get my business into schools, businesses, events, etc. For this I have been doing a lot of "cold calling" (which I am really not a fan of)

I am also trying to target residential/ families who may be worried that their child or loved one is using drugs.

I have thought about radio advertising but am not sure if that is effective or if there is anything else I should look into to reach residential and commercial customers.

Any advise is greatly appreciated!!

@Amandalee1234, You need a great visual tool to sell your business using social media. Yours is better suited for visual media than radio.

I'd say make a video and use social media to sell your business:

1. start with ads in the community section of craigslist to find some clients who will let you make a video of your dog searching their home, business, school lockers, etc. Maybe a PTSA member can help you film at a nearby school.

Next create a video to post on a facebook page for starters. The facebook page should be about the problems your business solves -- i.e. What to Do If You Suspect Your Child is Using Drugs

Discuss a variety of solutions like how to talk to your kids, how to monitor their behavior, etc., and post your video as a sticky post.

The visual of dogs sniffing homes and lockers in a way that's accessible to parents and school systems will create viral attention. People love fascinating, innovative solutions and yours is definitely that, combined with the fact that people love dogs and would love to see them helping/working this way.

Hope that helps!

Hi Amanda,

Do you have the budget for advertising on Facebook or Google? If so, that's what you should do. It's the absolute fastest way to get the attention of your target audience.

Good Luck!

Have you already set up shop where interested locals can walk-in and see your canines in action? A live demo demonstrating what your canines can do would make people appreciate the services you offer. Distribute flyers/brochures about who you are, what your company does, services offered along with a "soft opening" where you can do a demo. You can also throw in free snacks or light lunches to get people to come.

You can also make great use of Networking. Join a local pet owners' association for starters. It won't cost you anything, aside from a membership fee to get signed up.

You can also host educational workshops that focus on a subject(s) that adds value to your services.

Hope these help.
